Advent #4 - The Candle of Love (”God Is Love”)
Sunday Dec 17, 2023
Sunday Dec 17, 2023
In our fourth week of Advent, Jeremiah shares with us about love. In summary, he shares with us from 1 John 4:7-21: "God is love, and shows us love, so we can love others." God's very nature is love. It's not just something He does, it's something He IS. But, He also does more than just talk about it, He shows it. The greatest example comes through the birth, life, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, our Savior. He demonstrated His love by sending His Son to die for us even while we were yet sinners according to Romans 5:8. As a result of us receiving this love, God wants each of us to love others. John tells us that those who say they love God must also show that love to one another. So, let's listen in as Jeremiah shares God's Word with us today...

Advent #3 - The Candle of Joy (”Choose Joy”)
Sunday Dec 10, 2023
Sunday Dec 10, 2023
In our third week of Advent, Pastor Anthony brings us a sermon called, "Choose Joy." As we look at the true meaning of joy, we discover that it much deeper than mere happiness and only comes from the Holy Spirit. John Piper says that true Christian joy "is a good feeling in the soul, produced by the Holy Spirit, as he causes us to see the beauty of Christ in the word and in the world." It is both an emotion that we can "feel" and a choice we can make. But, how? Let's listen to Pastor Anthony as he shares with us about the true meaning of "Joy."

Advent #2 - The Candle of Peace (”The 3 Types of Peace”)
Sunday Dec 03, 2023
Sunday Dec 03, 2023
As we enter our second week of the Advent season here at New Life, Brian steps in to share on the subject of "peace." In our lives, we all need to have peace in three separate areas: Peace with God, Peace within Ourselves, and Peace with Others. How do we achieve that? What are the barriers and benefits of having peace in these three places? In this Christmas season especially, the whole world is seeking true peace. But, where do we find it? True peace only comes in our lives once our relationship with God is made "whole" through Jesus Christ. After that, God can help us to achieve peace everywhere else. Let's listen to Brian as he shares from God's Word on how to have true peace this Christmas.

Advent #1 - The Candle of Hope (”Where Do You Place Your Hope?)
Sunday Nov 26, 2023
Sunday Nov 26, 2023
As we enter the Advent season, today's sermon focuses on the candle of hope. Pastor Anthony asks the question: "What do you place you hope in?" According to Tim Keller's book, Counterfeit Gods, the four things most people struggle placing their hope in are: Comfort, the Approval of Others, Control and Power. If we place our hope and emphasis on any or all of these things, we will find ourselves lost and lashing out to those around us when the stress of life comes. In the end, we must all choose to place our hope in one, and only one, thing; Jesus. He is our Hope, and He is THE only Hope for our world.

The Lord’s Supper - Our New Covenant
Sunday Nov 19, 2023
Sunday Nov 19, 2023
In today's sermon, Pastor Anthony shares about the new covenant we have through Jesus Christ. This covenant being marked in remembrance through the Lord's Supper or Communion. The old covenant is not to be done away with. It serves a purpose; to point out our inability to deal with the sin in our lives. It is meant to point forward to the perfect sacrifice, Jesus. As we share in the Lord's Supper, let us always remember its purpose: to "proclaim the Lord's death until He comes."

The Study of Deuteronomy #6 - ”It’s Your Turn - Do Something!”
Sunday Nov 12, 2023
Sunday Nov 12, 2023
In our sixth sermon in Deuteronomy, Pastor Anthony shares with us on the difference between the crossing of the Red Sea and the crossing of the Jordan. At the Red Sea, God did everything and the people just watched Him and crossed over on dry ground. At the Jordan, the waters didn't part until the feet of the priests touched it. At the Red Sea, they were escaping an enemy and going from life in bondage to a life in the wilderness where God would provide all of their needs Himself. At the Jordan, the Israelites are crossing over into their "Promised Land" where they will have to fight and forage for themselves. God would be with them and bless them, but they would have to pick up swords and plows and "fend" for themselves. They had to be active in taking the land. We, also, have been called by God to be active in our faith. God is with us, but we have to DO something.

The Study of Deuteronomy #5 - The Greatest Commandment
Sunday Nov 05, 2023
Sunday Nov 05, 2023
In the fifth sermon on Deuteronomy, Pastor Anthony starts in the book of Matthew where Jesus is posed the question, "What is the greatest commandment?" In His answer, Jesus goes all the way back to Deuteronomy 6:4-5, a passage that the Pharisees are keenly aware of. Why did Jesus do this? Because knowing something and doing it are two completely different things. Jesus is calling each one of us to not just be "hearers" of the Word, but be "doers" of it. We should all be obedient to His Word, not just be reading, studying and memorizing it. God's Word is meant to change us to be more like Him.

The Study of Deuteronomy #4 - Teach the Next Generation
Sunday Oct 29, 2023
Sunday Oct 29, 2023
In the fourth sermon in the book of Deuteronomy, Pastor Anthony shares with us about "Stones of Remembrance." In it, the children of Israel are passing through the Jordan River in order to cross into the Promised Land. When they reach the other side in Joshua chapter 4, Joshua commands the people to send 12 men back into the middle of the river to gather up 12 stones. The purpose of them was to set up a memorial on the other side of the river. In verse 6-7, Joshua explains the purpose: "that this may be a sign among you, that when your children ask their fathers in time to come, saying, 'What mean ye by these stones?' Then ye shall answer them, that the waters of Jordan were cut off before the ark of the covenant of the Lord; when it passed over Jordan, the waters of Jordan were cut off: and these stones shall be for a memorial unto the children of Israel for ever." The children of Israel were supposed to pass on the knowledge of God's faithfulness, power and love to His people from generation to generation. And so are we...

The Study of Deuteronomy #3 - Issues of the Heart
Sunday Oct 22, 2023
Sunday Oct 22, 2023
In the third sermon of our series on Deuteronomy, Mel brings a sermon based out of Deuteronomy 4:4-8, in which Moses is reminding God's chosen people why they have been chosen, and what God has chosen them to do. They were about to go into a land full of idolatry and all things anti-God. God wanted them to stand out and be an example to the nations around them. An example of God's wisdom and His presence. God wants that for all of His people (i.e. US). We are to be that "light set on a hill." We are to "let our light shine before men, that they may see our good works and glorify our Father in heaven." The question is, do we truly look different than the world? These changes must emanate from the heart. Our heart must be changed. But the good news is, God has given us everything we need in order to make that happen.

The Study of Deuteronomy #1 - ”Don’t Forget”
Tuesday Oct 10, 2023
Tuesday Oct 10, 2023
In the first sermon of our series on the book of Deuteronomy, Pastor Anthony reminds us all of the importance of remembering. As the Church, and as individual believers, we must all remember what the Lord has done in our lives. We must remember his faithfulness and all the things He has taught us. We must also remember to teach them to our children and our grandchildren. In Deuteronomy, Moses is reminding the Israelites before he dies of all that the Lord has done for them, and how they must remain true to the statutes and commandments of the Lord in order for them to be able to successfully take the Land of Canaan. They must also never forget to teach these same things to all succeeding generations. Only by doing that, can the Israelites (and us as His body) be truly successful and accomplish the plans and purposes that He has for us in this world.
