We begin today's sermon with a thought provoking question: What is distracting us from deeper intimacy with God? John writes to the people in Laodicea warning them about the danger of being lukewarm. The problem is not whether we are hot or cold, the problem is how far are we from the life giving source? Many times, Christ is a near part of the church but not the center of it. Today's message prods us to look within ourselves and re-shift our focus to Him.

God restores, resets, and reorders, for those who respond to Him. So, how can we know when God has put something on our heart and how and when do we respond to it? In Nehemiah, we see what God put on his heart and how quickly he responded. Not only were the walls physically rebuilt, the people were as well. Is there something that needs restoration in your life? Is there something that needs to be reset, or maybe even reordered? Let's take a look at God's Word to examine how we can KNOW when God is speaking to our hearts and how we should respond.

We've heard the prodigal son parable many times but this time we will focus on the father and his love for both sons. Most of us can identify with the prodigal and the rebellious nature but can we also identify with the religious son? Experience the love of a father that comes out to meet you whoever you are and wherever you came from.

As Christians, growth is imperative. The key to growth is a few things. First, abiding in the Lord gives you access to His heart and will. Knowing what is on the Lord's heart is key to what kind of fruit we will produce. Then, we must consider the pruning process. There are things in our life that may not necessarily be sin, but instead take away from the energy needed somewhere else. The Lord will oftentimes remove those things to better prepare us for the road ahead. Things that He knows could take us under. Let us look at the Word and learn more about what the Lord has to say about the process of growth.

We often forget that God is not only the God who saves, He also restores. Prayer is often our means to access God, either for things we need or for things that haven't happened yet. At other moments, it is just a way for us to connect to our Heavenly Father, who may seem out of reach or distant. Oftentimes, prayer can become passive and we can get discouraged. Prayer, however, should be an active exercise. Prayer is a constant act of faith; knocking and waiting for the door to open. But what do we do when our Lord answers and opens those doors? Do we step out by faith and walk through it, or do we stay where we have grown complacent? Let's look at what the Word says about the power of prayer in our lives.

Our Hope is a belief in the promise of a good Father. It empowers us to receive God's Peace. God's Peace is a gift and provides a path to true Joy. Love is the cord that ties each of these aspects together. It's not just the 4th aspect of the Advent season, but it serves as the unifying force for all believers. As we focus on it, it will cause us to be true bearers of Hope, Joy, and Peace to a world that is lost in darkness. Our Hope...our Joy...our Peace is found in Christ alone and His love for us all.

Joy is experienced in so many ways and through so many things. Joy from a spiritual perspective, however, is so much deeper then just the way we experience things around us. Joy is a much deeper expression. It's a choice or an attitude that we can adopt, no matter the circumstances. We often think that having sorrow, depression or struggling in any way is somehow the absence of joy. That is a giant misconception. We live in a fallen world and in a fallen body. So, it is possible to struggle with depression and sorrow of all sorts and still be full of faith and joy. The amount of happiness you display has no bearing on your standing with God or how your faith is measured. Joy is not a feeling we manifest in and of ourselves. God is the source, and when we have Him, we have joy. Let's look at what else the Word has to say about the Joy that comes from God alone.

The Advent season is the celebration of the coming of Jesus. In this celebration, we have looked at Hope and today, we focus on Peace. Throughout the Bible, we see this theme of brokenness and the way to restore it. Peace in Hebrew is "shalom." Shalom means to make whole or to restore. No matter what the world chooses to believe, Jesus is the only one who can take what was broken in the beginning and make it whole once again. Just like he is the only one who can take the brokenness inside us and make us whole as well. So, as we address what all Peace means, let's see how this understanding affects us as we look in the Word together.

As we begin this Christmas season with the first week of Advent, we look at the Candle of Hope. Hope is what sets the stage for peace, joy, and all the other things that are good in our lives. Advent is the season of anticipation and expectation, which is what hope is all about. So, the question we have to ask ourselves is, what or who are we waiting for? Depending on who you ask, you are bound to get different answers. So then, the question isn't just what are we waiting for, but HOW are we waiting? Are we waiting poorly or are we waiting well? How brightly is your own personal "Candle of Hope" burning? Let's look at the Word and see what it has to say about biblical Hope and all that means to us, especially this time of year.

This week we continue to look at the mind of Christ, and how that manifests in us and out to those around us. The Lord calls us blessed . He says we ARE blessed in present tense not in future tense in that one day we will be blessed. When we look at the attitudes and what is produced in our hearts it should be merciful, pure in heart . Is your heart actively making peace with the ones around you? Peace is an action, not a passive position. Is your heart courageous in the face of opportunities to serve? Let's examine the word and look at what the Lord has to say about the heart posture along with the mind of Christ and how it is displayed in our lives .
